1. Study of society and human behavior

2. Looking for patterns, of all aspects of society from all scales/scope with the sociogical perspective

3. Seeing general in particular and seeing strange in the familiar, so the decision of what you decided to do is compared to everything else in the area - looking for patterns of choice and to approach the everyday world as if you were seeing it for the first timeĀ 

4. Look at social location to help determine some of your opportunities, marginalization - people treated differently based on access of power, power/inequality - example being someone who has a thick accent could be looked at as less intelligent which then brings out the inequalities, in total, trying to understand society and to create good public policy

5. When seeing how quickly societies can change, people wanted to scientifically understand the things around them, doing so scientifically allows you to actually put together patterns and create public policies to improve the society
